NOAM GAGNON

FOUNDER + DIRECTOR + INSTRUCTOR + TEACHER TRAINER

Noam is the founder & director of Beyond Pilates and co-owns The Pilates Collective.

Noam Gagnon is an internationally recognized classical Pilates teacher with over 40 years of experience in movement, teaching, performance, and creative exploration. He began studying the Pilates Method in 1987 and became a certified teacher in 2001 through The Pilates Center of Boulder, a program rooted in the teaching of Romana Kryzanowska and the original work of Joseph Pilates.
With a lifelong passion for movement, Noam brings together his experience as a professional dancer, choreographer, performer, and educator with his deep study of the Pilates Method. His approach to teaching is grounded not only in knowledge and precision, but also in curiosity, empathy, and a genuine interest in helping people discover a deeper connection to their bodies and to themselves.

Push Beyond

A pivotal influence in Noam’s Pilates journey has been Jay Grimes, a first-generation teacher who studied directly with Joseph and Clara Pilates at their original New York studio. Noam had the privilege of studying under Jay and is a graduate of the prestigious Vintage Pilates Master’s Program in Los Angeles. These experiences have deeply shaped his understanding of the method and his commitment to preserving and sharing its rich history and principles.

In addition to his Pilates work, Noam is an acclaimed choreographer and performer. He was Co-Director of the internationally celebrated dance company The Holy Body Tattoo and is currently the Artistic Director of Vision Impure and an Associate Dance Artist at Canada’s National Arts Centre. His years in the contemporary dance world continue to inform the way he sees movement, creativity, collaboration, and the human body.

“Noam Gagnon is a special spirit — His studio is hard work but there’s laughter too. I remember his classes with gratitude and hope that I can return and learn more from a master teacher”

— Sir Ian McKellen (London, England)

Since founding Beyond Pilates in Vancouver and launching its Teacher Training Program in 2006, Noam has had the opportunity to teach and connect with practitioners and teachers around the world. Through international workshops and teacher education, he shares his knowledge while encouraging students to develop their own understanding, confidence, and relationship with the work.

As Lead Teacher of the Beyond Pilates Teacher Training Comprehensive and Bridge Programs, Noam is particularly passionate about supporting the next generation of Pilates educators. He believes that teaching is as much about listening and creating trust as it is about sharing knowledge.

He is also a Level 3 Franklin Movement Educator and a member of the Franklin Method Faculty. At the heart of Noam’s teaching is a simple belief: that movement can be a source of connection, discovery, and joy. His work invites people to explore the Pilates Method with authenticity, integrity, curiosity, and a sense of possibility.

“ I’ve been coming to the studio since it opened, and Noam has created a warm, welcoming environment full of personality. The studio is always clean and organized, with fresh flowers and music at a comfortable level, keeping each visit fun and interesting.

Noam has personalized my Pilates practice to meet my body’s needs and has completely transformed my ability to work all day without strain on my back and knees. His endless energy is infectious, giving me the morning boost I need to keep coming back each week. Noam is a truly talented unique individual who makes me laugh, have fun, and stay focused on technique.
